This is the same rear motor that is in the model S and X. Tesla learned from the Original Roadster, made this motor, then came out with the new model 3 and Y motor. Even from 2012 the inside of this is super advanced technology.

That is amazing…. especially the computer triad area. It is a sturdy design surviving those punishing/ jarring roads with pot holes and bumps …. then looking at the the home computer/lap top mother boards and knowing they are very sensitive to breaking when dropped.
The home computer/lap top companies need to come up the same durability for their motherboards as did Tesla.

Purchased a new gasoline powered car that gets over 40mpg 15 years ago for $16,800 new. It has over 100,000 miles on it with no problems whats so ever. It does not go over 110mph and goes 0-60 in about 15 seconds and carries 4. Brakes and everything are still original. Had to change tires at about 75,000 miles and a couple of batteries for under $100. I estimate i have spent about 15,000 to 18,000 in gasoline. I am thinking about purchasing an electric car now, but not sure if they will last nearly as long as my current car and battery life after 10 years has not tested yet. It can be very costly to replace batteries. On a fixed income now.

Listen I like gas cars more for their consistency, but I'm also an electrician so that's why I'm interested. The maintenance on the electric motor is sure less but have you heard how the batteries degrade? Pretty significantly too, I would avoid spinning it as you could turn it into a generator. You didn't even pull the actual motor apart, all you did was get to the gears and the computer board.

You didn't even pull apart the motor (the huge cylinder thing)…
No oil changes or "normal" maintenance like a internal combustion engine car. What happens when it needs a $20-$25,000 battery or you go to sell the car with an old battery and nobody wants it? All the money "saved" is gone. Gas savings is not relevant because of the high price of the car to begin with and the cost of charging. I can buy a $20k gas powered car instead of a $60,000 EV. Cool cars, but financially a bad choice.

As an ICE owner I can sleep at night knowing no child labor went into building the car. I can also sleep easier knowing that my car can be recycled while EV batteries will remain toxic of 20,000 years.
